Questions the Internet Can’t Answer

This trip is causing us to ask questions previously unasked - and the Internet is failing us at providing answers.

It seems so simple - all we want to know is for any given period of time, where in the USA are the temperatures around 70 degrees?  We’re trying to plan a route for our year on the road and just want to see what influence typical weather patterns would have on that planning.

I spent a couple hours last night fooling around on weather.com, experimenting Wolfram-Alpha, running Google searches and complaining on Twitter to no avail.  It seems the entire online weather world is only geared to answer questions in the form of “I plan to be in a specific location during a specific time, can you tell me what will the weather be?” and we need to flip that on it’s ear and ask “I plan to be in a specific weather pattern during a specific time, can you tell me where to find it?”

I didn’t think it would be so hard to do…I know the data is out there, but have to assume it’s a question so few people ask that the tools haven’t been constructed to answer it.

Fulltime Families Magazine

Not sure how we missed this in all of our preparation and research:

Truck Tow Hooks

Our truck went through an auction at one point - and it almost seems like anything easily removable was.  It’s missing the remote entry fobs, floormats, spare tire jack, a brake controller wiring harness, a remote for the stereo, the spare tire looks like a junkyard replacement, and it was also missing the front tow hooks.

Being that it’s two wheel drive I still have concerns that we’ll get stuck somewhere.  I really wanted the tow hooks to work as a front recovery point in the case that we do get stuck and need a tug.  Luckily the EarlyCJ5.com Jeep crowd came through even with Chevy truck parts.  I got some replacement hooks for the cost of shipping and a quick coat of paint later they’re installed:

Portable Washing Machine

$42 to lessen reliance on having to find and spend time at laundromats?  This portable washing (or “warshing” as my grandmother would have pronounced it) seems like a no-brainer.  We could do a small load once a day and probably keep up with clothes - and just find a laundromat every couple of weeks for bedding, etc.

First Real Trip

This past weekend we joined in with the 9-5’rs and headed out of town for the holiday with the truck and trailer.  My folks have a lakefront cottage an hour away from us in Grant, MI and - since they are long-term RV owners - Dad’s got the place setup with full RV hookups.
