Seattle

Pike Place Market in Seattle

Our first destination after wrapping our camp-hosting job in the Olympic Peninsula was Seattle.  While we thought we might get there while camp-hosting, what we found was that while as the crow flies the two locations were decently close, the trip was made more complex by all the water in the area.  The drive could be short but expensive using the local ferries, or cheaper but longer by driving around. …   Read More >>

Sol Duc Falls

Data at Sol Duc Falls

We finally made it out to complete our waterfall hat-trick and it’s a good thing we didn’t try to see them after Madison and Merimere Falls.  The Sol Duc trailhead is 12 miles off the main road so it was quite a drive back in. MsBoyink tried some Dramamine for the first time as this area makes her car sick.  It helped her car sickness, trading it out for tiredness…   Read More >>

Hurricane Ridge

Hurricane Ridge in 1 Photo - flowers and vistas.

This past week we traded some shifts with another camp-host couple to allow them a long weekend away.  After 4 days on rather than our usual 3, we’re now on a 4-day off stretch.  The first day we just took a quiet day in the campground, taking advantage of a beautiful day and a mostly empty park.  On this day we decided to get out for a full day and…   Read More >>

Hitch Itch

Sunset over Crescent Beach, WA

RV’ers have a phrase: “hitch-itch”.  It strikes when the interest level in what’s down the road becomes higher than the interest in the spot you’re in.  You get the itch to hitch up the trailer and move on down the road.  And we have it, bad.  We’ve been in this spot since July 10th, so 6.5 weeks total.  That’s longer than we were off the road due to our truck…   Read More >>

Madison Falls / Marymere Falls

Spiritual Dancers Posing by Madison Falls

Since it was both Sunday and we weren’t on-shift for our camp hosting gig, we were able to explore the area around us a bit more.  I had wanted to do a waterfall hat trick since there are 3 of them within an hour or so from us, but as usual the plan had to be modified mid-stream.  We got a late start after a longer church service, then had…   Read More >>

Leroy the Baby Seal

Leroy the Baby Seal

Editors Note: The photos are of a baby seal that was discovered this week on the beach at our current RV park in Port Angeles, WA.  We learned that this is a common occurrence in this area, and this is the natural order of things.  The babies come on shore to rest and will be retrieved by their mother at some point.  Sure enough, a couple days later the baby…   Read More >>

Hoh Rain Forest

A Roosevelt Bull Elk

On our way to the Q family, we stopped by the Hoh rain forest. I have an idea how the name came about. My story is some guy walked into the forest and said “HuhOH! A rain forest! This shouldn’t be here!” But I digress… To clear things up, we went to a temperate rain forest, NOT a tropical. There is a difference. Tropical rain forests are normally found 28…   Read More >>

Scenes from Port Angeles

A cruise ship in the Straits of Juan de Fuca

This camp-hosting gig is changing things a bit for us in many ways, one them being the routine we’d developed in updating this site (New place, new photos, quick write-up, move down the road. lather, rinse, repeat).  Well, not so much for a bit now. Here are a few photos that I grabbed between the last Port Angeles post and now.  Some are from in town and some (the sunset…   Read More >>

Storybirds 13th Birthday

The birthday girl

My birthday was August 3. I already knew that I wanted to spend my birthday with the “Q” family. We were a little apprehensive about the government thinking about closing the state parks, but when they didn’t, we just went right through with our plan. We arrived on Tuesday, the day before my birthday. We set up in ‘The Bunkhouse’ with all our stuff. Ms. Boyink and Boyink took one…   Read More >>

Neah Bay / Cape Flattery

Just..another..step...back..

From our summer spot outside of Port Angeles Washington we’re about an hour and a half drive from the northwesternmost point of the contiguous USA - Cape Flattery.  Since this is the first time we’ve been that close to one of the extreme corners of the country it was on our short list to visit during our stay here. We made that drive today.  And - it is a drive. …   Read More >>
