Gettysburg

Canon against the Gettysburg fence and skyline

We arrived in Gettysburg the evening of October 17th, not really knowing how long we’d stay in town.  Once again the park promised free wi-fi that wasn’t working when we arrived.  We originally booked three nights to give us time to explore the historic parts of the area even if we couldn’t also plug in and get some work done. On Monday we started at the visitor center where a…   Read More >>

Boondocking, Take 2

Sunrise Boondocking

From Philly we decided to head down to Gettysburg.  We got on the road late and then experienced bad traffic which put us further behind schedule.  We were also running low on groceries so missed lunch.  Needless to say after a couple hours on the road we were not a happy tribe.  We were headed to a state park just outside Hanover, PA - but needed to eat first.  Since…   Read More >>

Philadelphia

Boyinks by the Liberty Bell

Ignoring a forecast calling for 100% chance of rain, we scheduled our foray into Philadelphia. We had a bit of a late start, made worse by a much slower drive in than we expected.  Even though we were not in rush hour, traffic was heavy (at least to our suburban tolerance). We found parking under the Independance Visitor Center, and went upstairs to get oriented. Tours of Independance Hall are…   Read More >>

Quakertown

Covered bridge by park

We wanted to visit Philadelphia, so found a campground that looked (before we learned about Philly traffic and construction) about 35 minutes outside of downtown. We assume the roads in this area are based on pre-automotive horse and buggy tracks.  I’ve never seen so many houses and structures so close to the roads, which are already narrow, twisting and overgrown.  Add in barns with stone hedges and the area feels…   Read More >>

Don’t Give Up the Trip!

Don't Give Up the (Tr)ip!

Or - Not Much Fun in Erie. If you are from or live in Erie, I apologize.  I’m sure it’s a great place when the weather is warm, the amusement park is thronged with people, and the beaches are a great destination on a sunny summer day. We had trouble enjoying ourselves in Erie.  And we stayed longer than we should have. We chose Erie because it was a good…   Read More >>

Things We’ve Learned (so far)

Today has had it's ups and downs. It was a travel day where we went from Columbus OH to Erie PA - a drive of roughly four hours. The drive was quite pretty through the rolling hills of east Ohio heading up towards the Lake Erie coast. However - we didn't get settled in until around 4:30 and it hasn't been the smoothest of landings. Everyone else is in bed…   Read More >>
