Cooperstown

Data at the Museum

This weekend we fulfilled one of Data’s big goals for the trip - a visit to Cooperstown, NY and the Baseball Hall of Fame. We handled this a bit differently than most families probably do - as Data is the only real Boyink sports fan.  I gave him the option - saying if he wanted us there as a family we’d go as a family, but he saw the lack…   Read More >>

Watkins Glen State Park

Watkins Glen

Today we really felt like we had the first complete experience that we had been looking for on this trip.  It rained some overnight, but ended before we got up.  A quick look at the forecast confirmed a pretty day in store - mid 60’s and mostly sunny.  We got ourselves up by 7:30, and out the door at 9:00.  We drove the 1/2 hour to Watkins Glen and found…   Read More >>

It’s Been a Good Day

Storybird on Keuka Lake

When we got up this morning, it was no longer raining. First Official Boondocking Experience

We left Lockport about 6:00pm, heading toward the Finger Lakes region. We knew we would be boondocking for the night on our way toward Keuka Lake. We were looking at churches along the way, but ended up staying the night at a Super Walmart. We couldn’t very well open the slide for the kids to sleep in their bunks, so we made do. Mike and Data slept in our bed,…   Read More >>

Erie Canal, Lockport NY

Inside the Pipe

We spent the better part of the day in Lockport.  There were two attractions running - a boat tour that goes through the locks themselves, or a underground cave walking / boat tour.  Since it was still periodically drizzling and rather cold we opted for the underground walk.  This was also a fair amount cheaper as well. This “cave” is really a man-made water passage that diverted water from the…   Read More >>

Niagara Falls

Downstream from the Falls

No family adventure would be complete without a visit to Niagara Falls.  We have been here before.  About 6 years ago we bought a ‘96 Roadmaster Station Wagon off eBay and it was in Rochester, NY.  We drove out, picked up the wagon, and drove home stopping at the Falls on the way. This time we ditched the trailer in a private campground in Lockport NY, and then backtracked the…   Read More >>
