Who?
We are a family of four from Holland, Michigan, USA. MsBoyink and I have been married 22 years and we have two children - a 16 year old boy and a 15 year old girl. I am self-employed as a web developer and teacher, and we’ve always been homeschoolers. We are all readers, curious about the world around us, and more interested in experiencing it first-hand than watching it on TV.
What?
The adventure we left on in September of 2010 was living for a year on the road in the USA (read our travel journal). We purchased a truck and 5th wheel trailer for the trip and planned to meet as many people and see as much of America’s beauty as we could cram into a year. We ended up being gone a little over a year, but around the 7 month mark decided a year wasn’t going to be enough so came home to sell our house and remaining possessions, and took off on the road again indefinitely in May of 2012.
Where?
The first year we made it into 34 states. To see where we’ve gone since you can either visit our travel blog or view the map of our travels. Our current location is on the site home page in the upper right.
When?
When will we stop? When it makes sense to.
Why?
Why would a family give up a comfortable middle-class existence in the second happiest town in the USA? The short answer is because we can. Besides that - the desire to meet people & see places. The realization that our kids only have a few years left at home with us. And a desire for the adventure of a lifetime. Now - before old age and ill health kick in. There’s also a longer answer.
